Dental & Circumcision Mission at Culianan

The second year of the Dental and Circumcision Summer Project was held in Culianan Zamboanga City last April 4, 2009. JCI members as spearheaded by Mary Joy Tan and Jesse Talaver goes hand in hand with the Barangay Officers of Culianan as well as the Philippine National Police Health Service and Military Intelligence Group 9. There were 100 recipients of the dental care services and 100 recipients of the circumcision service. Free drugs were also distributed among the recipients.

Season 2: Amazing Challenge 2009

The Amazing Challenge of 2009, an interschool mind and physical competition during the 72nd Dia de Zamboanga, February 26, 2009, is a project of JCI-Jambangan and the City Government as spearheaded by Angeline Salazar, Vincent Paraguya and Lyryx Castelo. It accomplished its goals to promote tourism in the city, social awareness among youth and camaraderie among participating schools namely: Western Mindanao State University, Ateneo de Zamboanga University, Universidad de Zamboanga, Immaculate Conception Archdiocesan School, Pilar College and Southern City College.

Mayor Celso L. Lobregat, as one of the major sponsors of the event, started the game with a bang that led all players rushing to their task. Every team consisting of three participants raced around the city to arrive first at each station and accomplished each challenge that led them to a clue to the next station. Participants traveled from City Hall to Paseo del Mar to Museum to Plaza Pershing to McDonalds to Pasonanca Tree House, and Butterfly Garden to RT Lim Boulevard and back to City Hall where the awarding was held. They were allowed to use only public utility jeep as transportations at their own wits as they were escorted by PNP Group, MIG 9 and D’Alert Team.

Western Mindanao State University participants- Joey delos Reyes, Jenorey Olavides and Cipriane Jane Topia were held 1st place after finishing the end of the challenges at every station for about three hours. Then, Immaculate Conception Archdiocesan School participants- Jean Mae Jumawan, Eduardo Araneta and Marlon Gonzaga came in second and Ateneo de Zamboanga University participants- Tyrone Stevenson Chua, Chereylynn Ruth Ramirez and Glenn Mark Engay came in third.

Overview: Amazing Challenge 2009



The general objective of this event is to promote tourism and social awareness in the City of Zamboanga. Specifically, it aims to:

1. Introduce historical and appealing sceneries within the city

2. Allow the youth to participate in preserving the city's finest tourism spots

3. Initiate camarederie among participants as a team

4. Challenge participants in mind and physical activities


The respondents of the event includes different schools in the tertiary level ages 18-25 years who are physically and mentally fit. Two participants, one male and one female per team represents each school.

A task for the participants will be prepared at each station. Each team should be able to overcome the specific challenges held at each site to get a clue to the other site with another challenge awaiting them.
The first team to get through all the challenges will be held as the first runner up, the second team to finish will be held second runner up and third team will be held as the third runner up. A monetary prize awaits them at the final station

The 29th Induction Turn Over Rites of 2009 was held on the 13th of February in Regency Pasonanca, Zamboanga City in Hawaiian motif with the theme "Be Better- Stability, Growth and Unity" with a tagline of "ONE @ 61." Together with guest speakers: Mayor Celso L. Lobregat, JCI Sen. Edwin Ginto (National Senior Executive Vice President), JCI Sen. Lear San Buenaventura (National Treasurer), JCI Mem. Randolf Ivan Ruste and other guests.
